Evidence-Based Treatment for Autistic Students in the School Setting

As Speech-Language Pathologists in the schools, we are often faced with high caseloads, an even higher workload, and minimal planning time. However, this does not negate theneed for individualized support for our students, and more specifically our students with varying communication needs and supports. This course is designed for SLPs working in a school setting who serve Autistic students. As school-based SLPs, we are charged with high demands of knowledge, communication skills, and flexibility; all of which are skills wehope to teach to our students.

Participants will gain knowledge in the areas of goal development and intervention strategies tailored to theacademic environment. The course will address various evidence-based interventions that are highly specified to Autistic students; primarily focusing on the student as a whole, social communication and the importance of usingneurodiversity affirming practices, play, behavior strategies, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) modalities. Through varied methods of engaging activities and case studies, participants will receive quality instruction and opportunities for furthering their current skillset. All of the skills and materials presented will not only be items you can immediately put into practice, but you will also have variedtools in your toolbox of success to better support yourstudents.
