Reading intervention does not begin when a child starts kindergarten-it begins the moment we intentionally build theoral language and emergent literacy skills that support later reading success. Children with autism often require explicit, engaging instruction to develop these foundational skills, yet many clinicians report feeling underprepared to incorporate literacy into early intervention. This course provides speech- language pathologists and other pediatric professionals withpractical, evidence-based strategies for promoting emergent literacy through language-rich, multisensory intervention. Participants will learn how to integrate print awareness, phonological awareness, shared and dialogic book reading, vocabulary, narrative language, and early writing into motivating therapy activities that foster communication while laying the foundation for successful reading development.
