In the field of pediatrics, brain plasticity is well established as a foundation of development. Current research has confirmed the importance of early experiences, ranging from social/emotional to sensory to motor, as key influences on brain development and functional skills including learning, memory, attention, and emotional regulation. Recently, therehas been a flood of interventions on the market that purportto support brain development by harnessing the power ofbrain plasticity. It is crucial that pediatric therapy and education professionals use sound clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice to choose cost effective and practical interventions that capitalize on the brain's natural ability to change.
This one-day interactive course will review concepts of neuroplasticity, identify characteristics of the most effective interventions, and help participants choose interventions that are most likely to support functional change in children based on scientific principles. Current research on technology and"screens" will be presented as well as techniques for effective use of technology in therapy and how to educate parents on technology use. Practical interventions that focus on relationships, play, music, and movement will be presented with opportunity to experience activities that can be immediately incorporated into daily activities and therapy sessions.
Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Speech-Language Pathologists

course excellent but i had an extremely difficult time getting the course handout on the screen such that i could see the instructor with the handout next to her on the screen. made it very difficult for me. thus gave lower marks on that despite that she did an excellent job with handouts and videos and references

providing a screen with the materials (slides) and a window of the speaker or toggling back and forth may be more effective. following along on the manual and listening\/watching the video at the same time is too difficult...
