A recent meta-analysis found that there was an increase in screen time of 52% during the pandemic. As professionals treating young children for developmental delays, we are increasingly in the position of explaining to parents that too much screen time is detrimental to development. Although families are often given guidelines about limiting screen time, they are often lacking in information about why those guidelines were developed. Participants will learn how too much screen time affects developmental domains including speech and language, social-emotional, executive functioning, and cognitive skills. Attendees will also learnstrategies to share with parents on when and how it is appropriate to introduce screens to young children.
The content of this program is germane to children, students and clients ages 0-5.

i did notice some bias in the presentation, where certain video evidence seemed curated to favor one perspective over a more objective analysis, the majority of the information was factual and highly relevant. as an educator, i found the content regarding parent-child screen habits very relatable, particularly the challenges of working with families who abruptly hide devices or turn off the tv the moment i arrive.

i liked the updated information. i took a class over 10 years ago on screen time and it was good to see the most current recommendations and impacts, especially post covid. i also liked that this class touched on how screen time can effect other areas of development.
