Many diabetic patients do not fully understand the role nutrition plays in their overall management of the disease. You do not need to be a nutritionist to offer sound nutritional advice to your diabetic patients. In this course you will learn the importance of diabetic nutritional management for both type 1 and type 2 diabetic patients. We will analyze diabetes at a cellular level and then discuss the nutrition needed for optimal glucose metabolism and function. Focus will be placed on macronutrients and their effects on glucose metabolism along with fiber, an important component in glucose control. We will discuss both prevention and treatment strategies. We will also briefly discuss the role exercise plays in type 2 diabetes management.
Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants
Delivery Format: Asynchronous, recorded video to be watched online at your leisure

i felt that the idea that t1 diabetes is "curable" is inaccurate and could be highly discouraging for patients impacted by t1 diabetes. there is a large component of lifestyle modifications but even if a study shows that a participant could eliminate the need for taking insulin by changing diet, the participant still has diabetes there fore it has not been cured but instead managed.

a discussion of the use of glp1 meds in the diabetic patient would be appropriate to add.

it seemed very misleading to mention the idea of "curing" a chronic autoimmune disorder that currently has no actual cure (type 1 diabetes)

referencing one study to back up the topic isn't good research. the class was to much about the instructors personal experience, and lacking a lot of recent research or other facts. the presented material seemed highly designed to support the instructor's opinion, and not the topic overall.
