Gait speed has been referred to as the sixth vital sign. Research has correlated decreased gait speed to a wide variety of health presentations including increased fall risk and increased mortality risk. This course will specifically discuss the anatomy involved in human gait and how specific health impairments cause loss of gait speed. The course willalso discuss many of the new technologies being studied and developed to help populations with diminished gait speed. Finally, the course will provide specific strategies that the clinician can use to improve gait speed in the rehab setting.
Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Athletic Trainers
