With the children we work with, developmental change occurs primarily during everyday caregiver interactions. Brain science tells us that positive caregiver-child interactions lead to better development outcomes. A child's ability to learn, engage, participate, and become independent is influenced by the skills of caregivers. As early intervention therapists/teachers, it's our job to coach positive caregiver abilities, skills, and habits to help them feel more confident and successful in supporting their child's development during everyday family life. This course will provide you with a practice map for increasing the potential for successful "follow through" of early intervention strategies, techniques, activities, and tools.
The content of this program is germane to children, students and clients ages 0-5.
Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Speech-Language Pathologists

i liked the use of examples and how the speaker provided specific guidance on how to educate families. i found it helpful that the information was clearly organized and material very relevant to my practice. i plan to implement intentional coaching strategies in my daily practice as an slp.

it felt like it took 30-45 minutes to actually get to the content of the presentation (meat and potatoes needed to come sooner). i appreciate the effort of taking video at home as videos are helpful, but would have been more helpful to have real example videos. also, i was disappointed that all the examples were what to do in an ideal situation, but didn't discuss the "what to do if" scenarios, such as when having difficulty with a parent being receptive to coaching and different strategies to try. even though instructor wanted the participants to think of a challenging family currently on their caseload, there was not much discussion on how to best support or specific strategies with the challenging situations.
