This course provides a comprehensive exploration of proprioception and our body's ability to sense position and movement. Led by Dr. John Jowers, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS, the presentation covers the physiological and neurological foundations of proprioception, how it affects human movement and rehabilitation, and the impact of proprioceptive deficits on health and injury recovery. Participants will learn how to assess proprioception using evidence-based methods, identify risk factors for proprioceptive dysfunction, and differentiate between proprioception, balance, and kinesthesia.
The course also delves into treatment strategies, including indications for proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, unstable surface training, and functional rehabilitation exercises tailored to enhance motor control and prevent injuries. Advanced techniques, such as sensory integration and training with reduced visual input, are explored to optimize patient outcomes. Additionally, the session highlights practical approaches for improving patient compliance and incorporating proprioceptive training into clinical practice. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to assess, treat, and promote proprioceptive health for diverse patient populations.
Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Athletic Trainers

this course seemed more geared towards the outpatient setting. i work in inpt rehab, and proprioception is also important in this setting, however, most exercises were more high intensity than my patients can tolerate. it would be nice to advertise in the course description that this is geared towards the outpatient setting.

the instructor was good and knowledgeable, but sometimes stubbled over what he was saying making it hard to follow at times.

the course had a lot of contradictions making it difficult to determine when and how to use proprioceptive exercises\/unstable surface training. some areas of course said there was less strength gained on unstable surface training and other places said there was more. it was confusing to determine if and when i should be using task specific or unstable surface training.

instructor "read most of the material and slides to us". more bullets fewer sentences on slides would be more engaging, more extemporaneous

the overall quality of the camera, sound, and demonstrations were lacking some.
