Additional Information

Chronic disease in the US alone costs a staggering 3.7 trillion dollars per year, with major contributions coming from chronic pain, cardiovascular issues, COPD, and cancer. While experts sadly predict these trends to continue, there also continues to be mounting evidence of strong links between the development of chronic health conditions, post- traumatic stress, and adverse childhood experiences. Clinicians that know how to effectively help their patients manage the impact of post-traumatic stress are literally holding the keys to chronic disease amelioration in their hands.

This 3-hour interactive course will teach attendees the underlying links between trauma and chronic disease, as wellas immediately effective trauma-informed screening and application tools. Through hands-on labs, students willpractice biopsychosocial interviewing skills and evidence- based trauma-sensitive mindfulness strategies specifically to stabilize the nervous system, reduce re-traumatization, and promote healing. Following this seminar, clinicians will have the knowledge to identify underlying post-traumatic symptomology, effectively educate their patients on why theyshould care, and confidently guide them to improved self- empowered outcomes in the treatment of their chronic conditions.

he's a pt and he asked ots to respond but no one did on-line and there were none in class. i'd like to add this: ots are trained in this from early on in grad school--we are holistically trained, and i have been incorporating these practices my entire 30%2b years of practice. it's wonderful other professions are getting on board, but in 1996 one of our professors routinely took us outside for tai chi and explained exactly what this instructor did. that said, i really enjoyed all of the information, though it was primarily a refresher for me. no matter what or who, i love that healthcare providers are headed in this direction.

this is the second course i have taken through summit with brian trzaskos. he is an amazing presenter of course material! he is passionate and energetic in his area of expertise. material was very beneficial as an ot as well as in my personal life as wife, mother, home school educator, and caregiver. we need more courses like this with enthusiastic instructors teaching current, relevant material.

the subject of the class was exceptionally good and relevant today. it was refreshing to find new approaches to treating patients. the challenge will be to combat time constraints and attitudes of other professionals.
